Mind Control Techniques
Brainwashing techniques have been around for as long as man has sought to dominate man
. Throughout history,
mind control techniques have been used during warfare to turn an indigenous population against an invading force. Usually performed on large groups of people, this form of control is typical of cults, religions, governments, and any other organization seeking to develop an unquestioning following.
Brainwashing is used often in the modern world on a much smaller scale. Pressure from peers can be classified as a form of mind control.
The drive to be one of the group is often used to force someone to do something they may have never done on their own. Acceptance is a driving force of human nature, and as such, is a common point of mental manipulation.
The display of fake emotions can also demonstrate brainwashing. By acting as if you are in love, or by acting as if you value a person as a family member, you make that person believe they are important to you on an emotional level. Subtle actions and phrases are employed to create a false sense of love and security. Love is a strong force and can make subjects act irrationally.
Constant negative influence will also allow
mind control, especially if among a group of peers. If the common perception is that something is negative, individual members of the group will be reluctant to feel any other way than negative. This type of brainwashing has roots in the mechanisms of peer pressure.
Using the inner child against people is something you would not usually think of when it comes to brainwashing; however, the primal instincts humans had as children as still with us even as we age through adulthood. Rewarding good behavior in ridiculously extravagant ways is a mental way of tapping into that child-like desire in all of us. By encouraging this behavior with more and more gifts, a person can easily be brainwashed into obedience and lack of willpower.
The scape-goat method is an extremely powerful tool used when it comes to mind control. If a group of people, or even and individual, have some semblance of guilt toward an activity or past transgression, it is easy to offer a scapegoat to help relieve the negative feelings of guilt.
By saying to a guilt-ridden party, "No, it wasn't you! Look at how so-and-so did it. Clearly, they are to blame!" this immediately signifies to the group that an outside party believes they are innocent. If an outside party believes in their innocence, then perhaps they really are innocent.
Mind control is a delicate dance of manipulation and knowledge of human behavior. If you understand how people think and feel in most situations, you will easily learn how to influence those behaviors with your own activities.
By learning about others, you will inevitably learn about yourself. Self-awareness is one of the most valuable lessons in mind-control for the person who is completely self-aware is usually impossible to control with mental manipulation.
