Mini One: good Things Come In Small Packages
Mini One: Good Things come In Small Packages
Originally developed by Britains BMC, Mini is now owned by Germanys BMW. Mini remained under BMC from its first introduction in 1959 till 2000, from 2000 onwards Mini went under BMWs ownership. Historically three variants of Mini were offered; Mini Cooper, Mini Cooper S and Mini One. Other alternatives like Mini Moke and Mini Clubman were also included in Minis lineup from time to time but they never formed a cult following.
Mini One, under BMW flagship in 2001, was equipped with a 1.4 litre petrol engine, smallest in its category when compared to 1.6 litre petrol engines of Mini Cooper and Mini Cooper S. one of the reasons Mini acquired massive fan base in UK is its British lineage, BMW quickly realized this fact and announced in 2006 that Mini engines will be built in original birth place of Mini, UK. Previously Mini One engines were built by BMW and Chrysler and its diesel variant was built by Toyota.
Second generation of Minis, under new ownership, again comprised of traditional Cooper, Cooper S and One variants, Mini One was added later in lineup. Additionally in 2007 Mini introduced its first ever Cooper D, a diesel engine based sporty Mini which was again revived and remarketed in 2011 as Mini Cooper SD. Ever since 2000, Mini used different petrol and diesel powered engines for its vehicles. Some noteworthy Mini One engines used in different models are as follows
One: W10B engine was 1.6 litre, Injection based, basic engine used from 2000 to 2011.
One D: Its various variants were launched; first one was a 1.4 litre, turbo charge diesel engine capable of producing 87 bhp. It was used in 2007 to 2009.
One D (2009 & 2010): It was almost a 1.6 litre, turbo charged diesel engine capable of producing 89 bhp.
One D (2010 onwards): Another 1.6 litre, turbo charged diesel engine, producing 89 bhp.
One (2010 onwards): This 1.6 litre petrol engine was a non turbo edition into lineup, but it still produced 97 bhp.
Both Mini Cooper and Cooper S models were, and still are, equipped with bigger, gruntier engines. These two models established the hip and sporty image of Mini that made it more of a fashion icon than an everyday use, small family car. Mini One has same design and looks, plus its engine is more economical to maintain, repair and recondition when compared to bigger turbo charged ones used in Cooper and Cooper S, thus making it a perfect choice for avid buyer.
