Miniature Schnauzers came to be, around 1880. These dogs were meant to be farm dogs. They have are very courageous and were typically used for guarding families, herding sheep, and small farms. At one point, they were even used for catching rats! Miniature Schnauzers come from the Terrier breed group. Schnauzers are one of the easiest breed of dog to train!

In recent times, schnauzers have created some ongoing controversy. This breed of dog does not have lethal white gene or congenital theories. Not being albino dogs, the Mini Schnauzer is very affectionate and robust dogs that can show qualities of their colored counterparts. The FCI (Federation Cynologique Internationale) now honors white Schnauzers within their breed type. Now, Schnauzers are allowed to participate in agility and obedience contests sponsored by the AKC. Hooray Schnauzers!

These dogs are quite easy to please their masters.

Schnauzer's have a great sense of their territory.

Very expressive. When they see their owner, they will most likely greet you with a joy or excitement!

Mostly guarded towards strangers, yet if the owners let them know its OK, they will be friendly towards them.

They love to play.

For the most part, they are good around children, yet like any other dog it should always be supervised.

Known to have a high drive for hunting prey, means they might attack birds, snakes, rodents, etc

Schnauzers need tasks and to stay entertained, if they do not receive attention, they will start to make up their own things to do! Schnauzers are a fairly intelligent breed, they do know how to get themselves in trouble if they get bored!

They general size of this dog is small to medium, and a beefy and muscular build. Schnauzers are aristocratic dogs, they need to look good, and grooming will be a regular thinig for this breed. The life expectancy of this dog is usually around 12-14 yrs. Schnauzers are extremely affectionate. If you are looking for a loving dog, these are a good match. I hope you like dog kisses too!
