Modern Solutions To Common Dental Problems

Over the last 20 years modern dentistry has come a long way and there are now much faster

, more efficient and less painful solutions available. There are options available to patients of all ages for fixing cosmetic problems such as crooked or stained teeth, for restorative dentistry treatments such as fixing missing teeth or for preventative treatments such as preventing tooth decay. The following are some common dental problems that all of us may encounter and the solutions which a modern dentist will suggest.

One of the most common problems that people go to the dentist for these days is an unattractive smile. Teeth can be too long or short, stained, chipped, unaligned or overcrowded. There are several options available to the patient in this case - the patient can have either a combination of treatments or alternatively they can invest in porcelain veneers which are very effective at masking dental imperfections.

If you have ever had severe tooth pain you know just how awful this can be. It is usually the symptom of something else such as tooth decay or even an infection of the root canal. In the case of the latter the dentist will suggest root canal therapy which is a process which involves the cleaning out of infected tissue and filling the canal. The hope is that this will stave off further infection.

Sometimes a patient may go to the dentist with severely worn or broken teeth. This will occur if the patient has poor dental hygiene and if this are left for too long it can result in some serious multiple restorative and cosmetic dentistry treatment having to be done. This is known as a full mouth reconstruction and will incorporate everything from thorough cleanings to dental implants to restore the smile.

Something which is still a problem but which should no longer be is dental phobia and anxiety. In some people this is so acute that they will never go to the dentist. There are many options available for this, mostly involving sedation dentistry methods such as oral conscious sedation with nitrous oxide or sedatives, moderate sedation with IV drugs or deep sedation with modern anaesthetics.
