More Helpful Tips for Getting Sales Leads for Your Business
We are continuing our quest to improve your ability to generate sales leads via the internet. This is part two of our series on the helpful dos and don'ts of generating sales leads. We already established that you shouldn't pay someone to generate leads for you when you can easily do it yourself by searching classified websites. And, we already discussed the risk you take when buying sales leads on a disc. Now, onto the tips:
Tip #4 Do Not Search the Internet Manually
So we have covered some of the cons to paying a professional to find sales leads. That might leave you thinking well I will just save money and do all the work myself. If you don't use a program or website that lets you search thousands of websites at once or perform nationwide Craigslist searches, this involves you searching the internet manually. Lets say you visit Craigslist. You know how many people use Craigslist right? It could take you days just to find leads there. What about all the other online classified or online marketplaces (which are great place to find leads)?
Save time by using programs or websites that let you search all of Craigslist or thousands of websites at once; you get more results in much less time.
Tip #5 Always Get More than a Phone Number or Email Address
We have stated this multiple times before, a list of email leads is great but what are you trying to do with that list? Are you trying to get a sale? Lets say that you run an eCommerce store that sells pet products. You got a list of 1,000 emails. How many of those people are pet owners? Lets go with 700. That is still a pretty good number. But how many are actively searching for pet products? How many are going to be offended that you are basically cold calling or spamming their email inbox with advertisements they didn't ask to receive?
The thing is that you never know. That is one of the many reasons why the searching classified websites yourself is the best way to find leads (particularly sales leads). If you do a search, you will find people online talking about their pets. They might be looking to find a free dog or something. Send a message outlining the supplies you carry, which come in handy when getting a home pet-ready. They expressed interest in a pet and you actually saw the posting they made online.
Tip #6 Do Not Cold Call
The cold calling aspect is when you basically pick and pull numbers out of the phone book. You can also do this with searching classified websites (but you don't want to). Keeping with the example of finding someone looking to hire a freelance writer like you. Search with writer, articles, and so forth. Do not search with toaster and then cold call someone who was only looking to buy a toaster trying to convince them to hire you.
Tip #7 Do Not Spam by Email
Just like contacting a lead over-the-phone, you want to exercise caution when making that contact via email. You will notice the most success when you don't just find email addresses, but viable sales leads. Remember, this is someone who posts online they are looking for what you have or visa versa.
