Motivation for awarding Mother Teresa

Motivation for awarding Mother Teresa

There is hardly a person who does not know of selfless life of Mother Teresa. Her name became the symbol of altruistic work and self-sacrifice. The legendary woman devoted her whole life to caring for the sick and poor. Serving the poorest of the poor, Mother Teresa saved a lot of lives. The Norwegian Nobel Committee noticed and valued her mission and awarded her with the Nobel Prize in 1979. It was the first year when the Nobel banquet was cancelled on the laureates request. Mother Teresa explained that it would be better to spend money on charity and the Committee satisfied her request.

The Norwegian Committee was not the only organization appreciating Teresas achievements. She was awarded a number of medals and international prizes. This woman was named the patroness of a number of churches, commemorated in museums and monuments and her beatification took place in 2003 after documenting a miracle related to her name. An Indian woman said that she managed to heal a cancerous tumor after applying a locket with Mother Teresas picture on it. Documentation of the second miracle is required for her canonization. These facts prove the significance of her achievements and contribution to the worlds well-being.
