Motorhoming Around Sydney New South Wales

Sydneys iconic Harbour Bridge and Opera House are the vision in most minds when Sydney is mentioned- it is those things and more

. Beaches abound in Sydney, from Manly to the north of the harbour mouth, to Cronulla to the south. Bomdi is probably the citys most famous beach, where the eastern suburbs meet sand meets surf. Restaurants and cafes fringe the beach here.

Inland, Sydney has a lot of suburbs to see- Parramatta is the citys second CBD, once the capital of the colony of New South Wales. Theres a bit of Britain at Liverpool, part of greater Sydney and becoming a busy CBD in its own right.

Just outside of the metropolitan area lie the Blue Mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage Area. The mountains make a great day trip from Sydney. The Three Sisters rock formation is quite spectacular, and according to aboriginal tradition represents three sisters who were unfortunate enough to be turned to stone. There are many places to hike, camp and explore in the mountains, and a lot of wildlife, including tree-dwelling mammals such as possums and koalas.

Venturing further from Sydney, Canberra is a 3.5 hour drive. This neatly laid out city is the capital of Australia, and is known as the Home of the Story of Australia- it houses many monuments and institutions that represent and present the history of the country. The Australian War Memorial is here, and includes a museum, research centre and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Between the two cities you will find the interesting phenomena that is Lake George. It is a long, shallow lake that empties and refills on a regular basis.

Inland from Sydney is a mecca for motorsport lovers- Bathurst, home of the Mount Panorama racetrack and the famous v8 supercar race. It is possible to drive the track which is a public road when racing isnt happening, and follow in the footsteps of driving legends!

Tamworth is in the area too, Australias answer to Nashville. North up the coast is Newcastle, again a very easy drive from Sydney in a motorhome! The beach town is Australias oldest sea port, and as a result there is a lot of heritage architecture. Redhead Beach and Dudley Beach are located out of the inner city and are popular with surfers as they are less crowded than the beaches and foreshore right in Newcastle. A great bit of nature lies north from there- the Myall Lakes National Park, which featuresone of New South Wales biggest coastal lakes systems as well as 40km of beaches. This playground has several campgrounds, making it perfect for a more outdoors-based motorhome holiday.
