Moving House? Follow These Tips
So you have made the decision to move house or apartment into something big and posh!
Maybe it is just a case of needing a bit more space so you are moving into something a little bigger. Whatever the case, moving house is not that easy. It is not until you start packing everything up that you realise exactly how much junk and unwanted stuff you actually have stored away and stashed at the back of cupboards.
It may be feasible to rubbish about 80% of it, and it's well advised, but, still, at the end of the day, you've got a whole bunch of junk left over, not all of which is actually junk. This means that you will still have to pack a lot of it up and send it to your new house, which obviously needs to be done as cheaply as possible. So, how to go about it?
Start by packing up! Anything which is fragile or likely to break, ensure that they are wrapped up in either newspaper or blankets. Don't take any chances with ancient cookware and precious figurines - wrap them up as snug as can be, and don't stint on the packing! And leave these for last when you're finally loading up the moving lorry. Don't put them at the bottom, where they're sure to be crushed under a heavy flat screen TV or computer monitor!
There are security issues to be aware as well. There are surveys which prove you are far more likely to get broken into directly before or after moving. So you need to do some checks and make sure that the very people moving you aren't going to move everything back out as soon as your back is turned! If you aren't simply going to hire a van and rope in your relatives and friends to do the deed, you'd better make sure you're hiring a group of goodies, rather than shadies.
Before employing a moving company, check their history on the internet to see if any one has registered complaints about them, especially involving missing goods. A good quality company will be able to present you with lists of happy customers details. Check the feedback people leave about them on forums. If you are unable to find anything about the company online, or the only reviews are the ones that you can find on their website, it is probably best to go with a different company instead. You don't want to end up hiring a bunch of crooks.
Look after your children and pets while you're moving! No matter what you are doing, you should keep an eye on them, you don't want them to get left behind or get hurt on the heavy things getting moved around. Before you set off, obviously you want to make sure the children are ok and in the van as well. Don't leave them behind! Once they get to the new house, do not just leave them on their own straight away. Make sure they have plenty of time to adjust to their new surroundings, so they can begin to think of this strange new place as "home".
Just by taking a few simple steps, you can make the whole moving process easy. Happy moving!
