My Amish Dining Room Furniture Makes My House a Home

They say that the kitchen is the heart of a home, but I say it's my dining room filled with beautiful and practical real wood Amish furniture that just makes my whole house!

First, I purchased a great, long trestle table that has fourteen leaves, which means I can expand or contract it to accommodate exactly the number of people I'll be serving, up to twelve people at once. Of course that means I had to get twelve dining chairs to match the table, for those times when twelve guests show up. Now that's what I call family-style dining.

I couldn't decide between the Mission style or the simple Plank table board and frame style trestle tables, but finally I realized that the Mission style is much more practical for me because it's adjustable. That suits my needs better since I entertain often.

Lots of entertaining means lots of fresh tablecloths and stacks of clean dishes need to be stored and ready for use, as well as candlesticks and serving bowls and platters. The most elegant piece of Amish dining room furniture I own is the four-door hutch that matches my table and chairs. I chose oak because there are dozens of oak trees in my yard, so I guess that means oak is the theme of my home. And I chose the largest hutch available because I need all the storage space available for my antique dishes and lace table cloth collection. Grandma's silver flatware fits in the spacious drawers so it's easy to reach when the table is set.

There was just enough room under a window in the corner of my dining room for another useful item, a little wine cabinet with horizontal storage for bottles of wine and a big drawer for storing openers and warmers for serving. The wine glasses are in my big hutch of course. It's nice to have the extra space for serving different wines during dinner.

The first year our Amish dining room furniture was so popular with family members that we hosted two wedding receptions at our home. That was a lot of work, but everyone remarked how our Amish dining room is so functional and yet so cozy and homey at the same time. The way the wood matches on all the pieces, a trestle table and twelve chairs, a four-door hutch and a wine cabinet is truly amazing.
