Mysteries And Surprises That The Solar System Keeps
Our Universe hides a lot of secrets
Our Universe hides a lot of secrets. From time to time, scientists find mysterious facts that can completely change our understanding of the world we live in.
Meteorite of Life
A group of scientists of Neuherberg Institute of Ecological Chemistry guided by Philippe Schmidt-Kopplin analyzed the Murchison meteorite. The meteorite that fell near Murchison, Australia, in 1969, was analyzed soon after its falling. At that time the scientists were interested in definite chemical substances. The recent research, conducted by the German scientists, aimed at finding all the organic substances that the Murchison meteorite contains. The results of the analysis demonstrated that the total amount of organic substances counted over 14,000 including 70 amino acids. This meteorite formed long before the formation of our Sun. That means life appeared in the Universe in the earliest periods of its existence.
Inhabited Titan
The researchers of NASA Reactive Movement Laboratory have published the results of their research of Titan, one of Saturns satellites. According to the data, the atmosphere of Titan demonstrates an unusual pattern. The concentration of acetylene and hydrogen in different layers of its atmosphere is different. The scientists made a hypothesis a few years ago that there is a kind of bacteria living on Saturns satellite. It breathes with hydrogen and feeds on acetylene. The results of the research proved this hypothesis right.
Strange Events on Eris
Eris, a dwarf-planet situated on the outskirts of the Kuiper belt, demonstrated a strange change in the chemical structure of the surface. The astronomers of Arizona used the Multiple Mirror Telescope (MMT) to supervise the changes that took place within 4 years on the largest of the so called plutoids and came to the conclusion that the concentration of nitrogen on its surface of the planet suddenly grew. It reached the level it would naturally reach after hundreds of years. The scientists consider this anomaly to be a result of nitrogen cryovolcano.
