NJ Porsche a sound investment for rich folks?
We usually don't focus much on international news around here, but a story came in from an Aussie newspaper recently that bent more than a few eyebrows. Yes, we all witnessed the utter destruction several major players in the stock market caused during the recession. Many NJ Porsche owners were heavily affected by the nasty stock slide, but it looks like things are getting back to normal. Still, many consumers have been left with a much lower level of trust in the stock market, and so they're exploring other investment opportunities as a result of this distrust. This news story is a strange one, to be sure. It seems that wealthy Britons are buying up luxury vehicles as a form of investment. A new study by insurance company Aviva showed that the number of people with four or more high-end models (including Porsche and Bentley) has risen dramatically. Are these sound investments? They may potentially be. Some owners have as many as 30 different high-end models, which is a new level of luxury and financing that I can't even personally imagine. New Jersey Porsche owners would drop their jaws if they saw some of these collections, which show off the finest cars on the market.
Investments in prestige cars are growing as a result of the rapidly evolving auto industry, which has been on the up-slide ever since the recession settled down. NJ Porsche drivers are among some of the happiest drivers on the market -- and I'm among them, I'm not sorry to say. Aviva gives us a little more insight into the phenomenon. "The popularity of owning a collection of high-value cars is growing among the wealthy of the population generally," said Scott Leonard, high net worth underwriting manager at Aviva. "It is not simply the preserve of A-list footballers and pop stars. It seems that people with money to spend and invest are now as likely to add a new prestige car to their possessions as a work of art, so perhaps Porsches are the new Picassos." I don't know that Picasso would have any interest in the design elements of a new Porsche, but fans of the sleek, sexy styling will certainly enjoy what these high-end collections have to offer. New Jersey Porsche dealers would like to see the same phenomenon occurring here overseas to help bolster sales numbers only a year after the recession petered out.
Nearly two-thirds of the cars represented in the collections are less than two years old. Eighty-five percent of the owners are male, a statistic that points to the way cars have been marketed for years. NJ Porsche dealers definitely know that the male demographic is one of the main niches they appeal to, but there is plenty of wiggle room available in how Porsches are marketed to women. For now, New Jersey Porsche drivers will have to watch these British investors from a distance and see what returns they get on their investments.
