Recently ncube digital launched a fan club website for the popular Irish duo "Jedward" at http://www.jedward.net as a showcase SEO project. The site was optimised for specific keywords and we were getting a fair amount of traffic from generic searches in Google and yahoo...we wanted more.

We started utilising Facebook and twitter and the fans that were already on the website. In order of traffic, we now have Google at the top followed closely by twitter then Facebook, then Yahoo!

To do this was simple; ncube digital identified the target audience, in this case, fans of Jedward. We then had to focus the actual website to relate to this in its content, with the use of an auto tweet module and status update module for Facebook we were able to automatically tweet/update Facebook with all of the latest news articles about Jedward. To get more fans on the Facebook pages twitter was used again, manually tweeting @ replies to people who were currently tweeting about Jedward.

The thing to remember about social networking is it is viral, 1 person joins your Facebook page, that person has 3 friends who join, they each have 3 friends that join and so on, and before you know it you have many different users all following you via social site. The next part to get them to go to the actual website is even simpler, ncube digital recommends only tweeting and update teasers, this means that the user is intrigued and will visit your site.

We have all used youtube to watch videos, but how many webmasters actually utilise it as a marketing tool? Youtube is awesome as a marketing tool to drive targeted traffic. During January 2010 ncube digital posted a number of videos of jedward on a youtube channel, on each video in the sidebar were links to jedward.net and also in annotations within the video, doing this put youtube (during that month) as our second largest traffic generator, generating over 25% of the traffic to the site.

Once the users are at your website, keeping them there is all down to how interesting and appealing the site is. This is based on looks, design, navigation and most importantly content. People like content, they are on your website to gain information and that information should be readily available, in depth, easy to read and easy to navigate.

Also to keep people on your website you should never underestimate the power of a forum, no matter what your website subject matter, people always like to have their say and a forum or comments section is a perfect way to do this, ensure that however you implement this that you have trustworthy moderators...as we all know, comments sections regularly get abused by the over opinionated!
