Nebrodi Regional Park, established August 4, 1993, with its 86,000 ha is the largest protected natural area of Sicily. The Nebrodi, together with the Madonie Peloritani west and east, are the Sicilian Apennines. They overlook, to the north, the Tyrrhenian Sea, while its southern boundary is marked by, in particular from the Alcantara River and from the course of Simeto. Notable difference is the hike that a few tens of meters above sea level reaches the maximum altitude of 1847 meters of Monte Soro. Other findings are reported from the Mountain of the King (1754 meters), Fau Peak (1686 m) and Serra Pignataro (1661 meters). However, when the limestone prevail, the landscape takes on aspects of the Dolomites, with irregular outlines and rough and fissured forms. The complex forest have a significant impact on the climate of the area nebrodense, which is characterized by having, unlike the coast and the rest of Sicily, long, harsh winters and warm dry summers.
