Already a booming trade town by 1160, Stuttgart has certainly come a long way from being a stud farm. Chic, polished but with an air of being laid back and relaxed, it is known as one of the most fertile and green towns in Europe. This 371km length of land is home to some of the most famous companies in the world such as Daimler AG and Mahle GmbH. Cutting its way into a steep valley at Rottweil, the Neckar rises up to about 706 metres close to Villingen-Schwenningen. Bereft of uniformity, this meandering valley opens up in parts but narrows down again leaving just enough space left for the impressive Neckar River to cut a path up the Triassic rocks.

The Neckar River is one of the more imposing landmarks that give the valley its popularity. Winding mainly through the south-western state, this 367km long river cuts right through the valley. The castle at Heidelberg is another point of interest along the valley. Associated with German romanticism and Holderlin the poet, it has been said that even Mark Twain once decided to stop in the area. Neckar Valley could possibly be the most well kept-secret in Europe, because the towns and villages scattered throughout are also enchantingly charming, each with a history of its own that will at once make you fall in love with it.
