More and more people are turning to jobs without a commute or a cubicle: they're working from home

One of the most popular job markets has been in customer service: answering calls for large companies from your own home. Hourly rates range from $8 to $15, and some companies even offer commission and incentives. The competition for these jobs is fierce, however, so keep this in mind if you decide to apply. On the flip side, some businesses offer sales positions that require you to make the calls, so you might want to look into that as well.

Another fast-growing field is independent contracting and free-lance hire. More and more businesses are hiring freelancers who can work from home to perform a variety of tasks, from content writing to translation to software development. While the downside is that you aren't offered company benefits, the upside is that you can set your own hours and work in a comfortable environment anywhere you want.

If you like to write or consider yourself an expert in a given field, you could be an online guide for a site like About.com, providing content about a specific topic. If you're hired, you could be making the average compensation of $18,000 a year--or, based on your page views and the growth of your section, somewhere around $100,000.

If you're less technologically inclined, you might consider selling homemade crafts. Companies like Etsy allow people to market their handmade jewelry, clothing, pottery, food, artwork, etc. While you could always try to sell your products locally, using an online listing service makes your work available on a global level.

Another way to work from home is to tutor--be it via the web or your own living room. Some web sites hire tutors to work online with students, requiring only a college degree. Math and science tutors are particularly wanted. Of course, if you already have the connections, you can tutor students face to face in your home.

There are countless ways you can work from home, and the benefits can be huge--flexible hours, the ability to be with your children, zero commute time, and the potential to earn a large income. Some people even run their own businesses from a home office! The trick is to determine what you're qualified to do and, just as importantly, what you'd like to do. Once you know that, it's guaranteed that you can find a job you can do from home.
