Need To Lower Your Household Bills? Check Out These Five Money Saving Tips
As we're fast approaching Christmas, it leaves many of us looking at how much money
we're spending on a monthly basis, generally so we can see what we can pay out for Christmas presents.
Whilst this view of our finances is great as it allows us to see just what we can spend at Christmas, it can also allow us to see what outgoings we have each month and whether we could be in a better position financially.
Something that's a lot easier to resolve than you may think, if you believe your financial position could be better and you want - or need - to start saving money on a monthly basis, take a look at these five ways of reducing your household bills that will ensure everyone can save at least a small percentage of money each month.
1. Look at TV, phone and broadband deals - if you're paying for these services separately, you really need to consider combining them all together and it's highly unlikely that what you're paying for them separately is cheaper than a combined package.
For instance, separately each month you could be paying 20 pound for your TV, 20 pounds for your phone line rental and call package and 15 pounds for your broadband. Take a look at combined TV, phone and broadband deals, however and your total cost could be just 30 pounds for the entire month.
2. Change gas and electricity provider - gas and electricity prices fluctuate somewhat constantly and the prices between providers can change substantially.
Therefore, unless you've changed your gas and electricity provider in the last few weeks, it's strongly recommended that you take a look at swapping.
3. Cut back on your luxuries - one of the major outgoings in any household is the luxury items and whilst they do vary from home to home, it's advised that if you need to save money, you cut back on them immediately.
Whether it's a satellite TV subscription, brand name hair products or the regular buying of CDs, stop buying them or go for a cheaper alternative for a few weeks and save the money that you would have otherwise unnecessarily spent.
4. Start splitting the cost of your daily routine - a lot easier than you may think, splitting the cost of your daily routine can be done in a variety of different ways.
For instance, if you drive to and from work each day and pay for parking, it's strongly recommended that you see if you can car share with someone who you work with who also lives near to you.
Where you might have spent 30 pounds a week on petrol driving to and from work and then 5 pounds a day parking, you could reduce your costs to 15 pound a week petrol and 2.50 a day parking by simply sharing your commute with someone else.
5. Use Direct Debits and online varieties - if the company that you have a service with offers Direct Debit as a way to pay your bill or if they have an online package, make sure you take them up on it, as in almost every case it will mean that you're paying the least amount of money possible for the service with that provider.
