Negligence' mars future of B-Tech students at KU

Srinagar: The future of at least 120 students of B-Tech first and second semester is at stake due to the alleged negligence of Kashmir University authorities. The ill-fated students are being pushed between Kashmir University main campus to North campus in Baramullah to attend classes.

According to an order issued, the students' have now been asked to take classes at main campus Hazratbal for three days and north campus for last three days of week. The authorities had shifted the students from north campus to main campus in third week of March promising all basic facilities including the laboratory for conducting practical's but to the dismay of students, nothing changed and the nightmare for them continues.

Failing to provide the basic facilities, the authorities have asked students to take classes both at main campus and north campus, which the students say would be very cumbersome for them.

"Our future is at stake due to the negligence of authorities'. Over past months, lot of our precious time has been wasted away as we have not been able to cover even the one third of our syllabus. The summer unrest in last year also heavily contributed in loss of our precious academic session. Now authorities' have asked us attend classes at both campuses, which is not humanly possible," a group of dismayed

students' told Agence India Press.

The main campus at Hazratbal is without a mechanical lab and students have not attended a single practical class, which is inevitable part of their syllabus. "So far, not a single practical class has been held at main campus. Before shifting from north campus, we were promised that all basic facilities would be provided to the students," said a student.

Failing to provide the mechanical practical laboratory at KU, the authorities have assured students toaccommodatethe practical classes at NIT Hazratbal on holidays.

The students expressed disgust over the authorities' decision of imparting classes on holidays. "Until now, despite repeated representations from students, they have done nothing to address our genuine problems. Facing embarrassment from almost all quarters for putting our career at stake, now the authorities have asked us to take classes on holidays as well only to show-off their seriousness," students alleged.

Despite attempts, VC Kashmir University Prof Riyaz Punjabi could not be contacted for his comments.(AIP)
