Designed to help fitness professionals learn more about the ins and outs of nutrition and how food affects performance, the National Exercise & Sports Trainers Association (NESTA) now offers a Fitness Nutrition Coach certification.

The completely online, accelerated program is approved for continuing education credits (CEUs) by NESTA and ISSA and provides a great complement to the physical fitness aspects of training and coaching. The Fitness Nutrition Coach certification enables fitness professionals to offer one-on-one and group nutrition coaching as well as in-person and online seminars, create websites, ebooks and curriculum around nutrition, develop body makeover programs and more.

"Understanding fitness is, of course, important for any trainer or coach, but fitness professionals can really complete their education and increase their business by offering nutrition expertise as well," said John Spencer Ellis, founder of NESTA. "Clients who are educated on healthy eating will be more effective both on the field and in their daily lives."

The Fitness Nutrition Coach training includes the concepts of nutrition (macronutrients, carbs, proteins, amino acids and fats), daily requirements, assessing needs through body composition and understanding supplements. It also addresses special populations such as vegetarians, pregnant women, diabetics and more.
