New Course From National Flood School Gives Sensory Approach To Fire Damage Training

A new course aimed at insurance professionals has been launched by the National Flood School, which gives a real insight into the damage that fire causes in the home.

The National Flood School is putting its state-of-the-art Flood House to a new use by setting fire to the property as part of the Fire Damage Awareness Day.

Believed to be the only purpose-built floodable house in Europe, the Flood House comprises eight rooms and 60 common household materials providing a comprehensive test-bed for training and development.

The National Flood School's technicians set fire to the property in a controlled environment. The students can then see the damage caused, including the high levels of dust encountered and the odour of the smoke produced and they become familiar with what a claimant is experiencing.

The one day programme also includes training in a classroom environment at the National Flood School's site in Farnham, Surrey.

Steven Lounds of the National Flood School, said: "The Fire Damage Awareness Day gives insurance professionals a chance to see the damage a fire can cause firsthand, rather than what they hear from a policyholder on the phone.

"What stands out is the level of smoke and soot damage, even from a small fire."
