New England Patriots Tickets - Patriots Make Final Cuts, Work Out Contracts

When it comes to talking to the media about contract arrangements

, players can take one of two approaches: stay tight-lipped or express frustration with the often long and intricate process. Leading up to the start of their regular season, the New England Patriots are dealing with both. Their star quarterback, Tom Brady, falls in the former category. His contract extension is expected to be imminent, but that didn't mean that the Pro Bowler wanted to discuss money with reporters.

Instead, Brady made sure to let everyone know that he would rather talk about the Patriots' season-opening game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sept. 12 at Gillette Stadium. Rumor has it that he could get a three-year extension worth close to $58 million. Brady has been with the Patriots since he joined the league in 2000 as the team's sixth-round draft pick. He has perhaps out-performed his pick more than any other player in the league, leading his team to multiple Super Bowl championships.

The Patriots are considered one of the elite teams in the league, and Brady is a large part of that. After missing virtually the entire 2008 season because of a left knee injury that required surgery, Brady was back in top form for the 2009 season. Last season, he had 4,398 yards, 28 touchdowns, 13 interceptions and a passer rating of 96.2. His rating makes it his second-best season in the NFL, and he is a favorite of many who have New England Patriots tickets.

One of Brady's favorite targets, wide receiver Randy Moss, falls into the latter category. He is set to make $6.4 million this season, and he has been pushing for a contract extension beyond this season. According to NFL.com, Moss has said that the Patriots haven't been in contract talks with him, which makes him think he isn't valued. He said, "When you have done so much and put so much work in, it kind of feels like I am not wanted." Moss has been with the team for three seasons and has proven himself as a top receiver. The 33-year-old had 83 receptions for 1,264 yards and 13 touchdowns last season. Prior to his time with the Patriots, Moss was with the Minnesota Vikings from 1998 to 2004 and the Oakland Raiders in 2005 and 2006.

Along with negotiating contracts, the Patriots have also been busy making cuts to reach their final 53-man roster before the start of the 2010 season. When they released their final cuts, some names on it were a surprise. The first was outside linebacker Derrick Burgess, who joined the Patriots last season. Last year, he played in all 16 games and started six, tallying 35 tackles, five sacks and one forced fumble.

The Patriots also released special teams captain Sam Aiken, who has been with the Patriots since 2008. Last year, he had 20 receptions for 326 yards and two touchdowns along with nine tackles. Prior to his time with the Patriots, Aiken played for the Buffalo Bills from 2003 to 2007.
