The New Kids on the Block are hardly new additions to the music industry at this point, but they have been away from the 'hood for while. In fact, it seems as if they just moved back in. 20 years ago, the New Kids were the coolest all-boy band in town - girls were hysterical, magazines lined up for interviews and nothing seemed to shake the kids off of their pedestal. Then allegations of lip synching arose and the boys saw their popularity plummet. Instead of headlining large arenas and stadiums, the band members were forced to settle for smaller clubs and theaters. Ultimately they decided to call it quits.

That was in 1995. Flash forward to 2008 when the boys reunited for a brand new album and subsequent tour. It was a hit among fans and now everyone can relive the excitement of the new New Kids on the Block with the Coming Home DVD. The New Kids on the Block debuted with their self-titled album in 1986. At the time most of its members were only 16 years old, with Joe McIntyre just 12. Their next album, released two years later, brought them even more attention; Hangin' Tough showcased a collection of sleek, radio-ready pop songs using the same style that would go on to define New Kids' sound over the next few years. Five of the songs entered the charts in the Top 10 and ultimately the record went double platinum. It was just the beginning of New Kids on the Block hysteria as the band was quickly becoming a pop phenomenon.

Their next record, Step By Step, arrived in 1990 and the title track quickly became the group's hottest single to date. It was also during this time that stores started stocking shelves with New Kids merchandise. Excited young fans were snapping up New Kids inspired dolls, lunch boxes and t-shirts, officially solidifying their top spot among pop musicians worldwide.

Unfortunately the mania would eventually die down. Allegations arose of lip synching and their sudden ascent to the top, coupled with over-exposure on the radio and in retail stores, led to their downfall. The band decided to throw in the towel in 1994 and various band members went onto pursue solo projects. Over the years they tried to reunite and after several failed attempts they took the world by storm once again in 2008. Supported by their album The Block, band members proved that they are still some of the coolest kids on the block.
