The British produced Discovery has been in production since 1989
, Land Rover's mid sized SUV with full off road capabilities is in its 4th generation. TATA owned Land Rover Discover 4 released in 2009 is the latest Discovery model.
The discovery 4 is a heavily revised version of the Discovery 3 first introduced in 2004, it has altered front and rear light clusters and a redesigned front grille and bumper to adopt the same smoother, rounder style as found in the 2010 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport.
The Land Rover Discovery 4 is a spacious 7 seater with superb versatility and superb levels of refinement; it excels both on and off road. The discovery comes in a 2.7 litre and 3.0 litre diesel TDV6. Though the power units have plenty of torque the weight of the Discovery means you have to be quite forceful to get it briskly off the mark.
Being an SUV the Discovery is quite a tall vehicle but, it does not suffer from the expected body roll making it fairly quick around corners and stable on the motorways. The air suspension means you do not feel road imperfections even on the poorest of surfaces.
Refinement wise the Discovery does very well to eliminate any turbo and ancillary noise from the cabin, road noise and vibrations have also been kept to a minimum. The only bit of wind noise is created by the chunky door mirrors.
You can pick up anew Land Rover Discovery 4 in Dorsetwhere they are very popular amongst farmers and agricultural businesses for around 35,000 for the 3.0 TDV6 GS.
