New Vaginal Mesh Safety Recommendations Issued

Los Angeles, CA, December 5, 2011 "" National law firm Nadrich & Cohen LLP is endorsing

new recommendations issued by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and the American Urogynecologic Society (AUGS) regarding the use of transvaginal mesh to treat pelvic organ prolapse in certain women.

In a joint statement, the two organizations called for physicians to limit their use of vaginal mesh only to high-risk women for whom other treatment methods would not be beneficial. The groups also strongly suggested the creation of a national registry to track patients who have or will receive a transvaginal mesh implant.

These latest recommendations come after the Food and Drug Administration issued new warnings about the safety of vaginal mesh in July 2011. Following the FDA"s warning, hundreds of women across the country filed lawsuits in state and federal courts alleging injuries caused by vaginal mesh side effects.

The women claim that vaginal mesh implants caused severe pain, scarring, infection, blood vessel damage, painful intercourse and other serious side effects. The FDA is currently conducting an ongoing safety review of these potentially defective medical devices. The first trials in the vaginal mesh lawsuits are not scheduled to begin until November 2012.

The law firm of Nadrich & Cohen LLP is urging any woman who has received or is contemplating a transvaginal mesh implant to visit their newly-established resource site.
