New York Knicks Tickets - Potential Moves

It's a well-known fact that the New York Knicks are focused on the summer of 2010

. They're all but guaranteed to go after potential free agent LeBron James if he opts out of his contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers. However, we're just 24 games into the 2009-10 season and there's a lot of basketball to be played.

The Knicks sit at 8-16, but have won five of their last seven games and seem to be giving New York basketball fans hope about this season. There's still plenty of reasons to get New York Knicks tickets before the summer of 2010 and the Knicks could make some moves that add more reasons.

The first option I'd look it is acquiring Tracy McGrady. McGrady has had chronic back issues for the past few years and normally one would think that his career is all but over. However, McGrady spent the offseason rehabbing and training with Tim Grover at his ATTACK facility in Chicago after firing his old trainer. Grover found that McGrady's old workout regimen had left him with no core strength. With no core strength and the rigorous demands of an 82-game season, it's easy to injure one's back, as well as your lower body. It's also easy to wear down as the season progresses and see one's performance dip in the postseason.

McGrady has declared himself ready to play and did so a few weeks ago, but the Rockets have been reluctant to let him onto the court. The team is playing well and he finally logged eight minutes in a recent contest due to a one-game suspension of Trevor Ariza. The franchise doesn't seem to have an interest in playing him and head coach Rick Adelman seems content without him. McGrady is only 30 years old, though, and should still have plenty left in the tank if he's truly got his back straightened out. He'll need time to get back into shape, but the Knicks could take a run at acquiring the former superstar. It would be a low-risk move, as McGrady's contract expires at the end of this season.

The Knicks could try to package either Eddy Curry or Jared Jeffries, as well as some expiring contracts and perhaps Wilson Chandler, in order to land McGrady. Even just expiring contracts would be worth the gamble, as a healthy McGrady would instantly become the team's best player. If he worked out this season, the Knicks could be able to sign him to a reasonable contract and pair him with a big free agent. I don't see much of a downside to a move like this, especially if the team can ship either Curry or Jeffries in the process.

Another player I could see the Knicks pursuing is Charlotte Bobcats point guard D.J. Augustin. Augustin has reportedly landed himself in coach Larry Brown's doghouse and could be available. The Knicks desperately need a point guard and Augustin received consideration from the team during the draft process two years ago. The Knicks could look to create some kind of package centered around Augustin in exchange for Jeffries. Jeffries has the defensive ability that Brown loves and a contract that hurts the Knicks' long-term plans.

It has also been reported recently that the Golden State Warriors could be shopping forward Anthony Randolph. This young kid has all the talent in the world and could be a great fit in Mike D'Antoni's offense. A player that the Warriors could be interested in is Al Harrington. While Harrington is the team's leading scorer, his future with the organization is uncertain. The Warriors could covet his scoring from a forward position and be willing to ship Randolph to New York.

A deal that sent Harrington and Jordan Hill to Golden State for Randolph, Speedy Claxton and Kelenna Azubuike would work financially and would seem to work for both teams from a basketball standpoints as well. The Knicks would acquire a young player with nearly limitless potential that could come in and play right away, as well as a backup point guard, while the Warriors would receive a veteran scorer and a potential project to replace Randolph.
