Nfl Tickets - Fantasy: Deep Sleeper Wideouts
Here some deep sleepers at the wide receiver position for the 2010 fantasy football season:
Malcolm Floyd, San Diego Chargers: Floyd is the receiver that stands to benefit the most from Vincent Jackson's suspension and potential holdout. He's the kind of big target that quarterback Philip Rivers loves and could get the most targets in the San Diego offense outside of Antonio Gates. Jackson will likely return at some point in the 2010 season, but Floyd could be a real bargain in the meantime.
Mike Williams, Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Williams has always had a ton of talent, but he comes into the league trying to shake his reputation as a questionable character guy. So far, so good, as the reports out of Tampa have been glowing and there's a good chance that Williams opens the 2010 season as the number one wideout for the Bucs, despite his rookie status. Quarterback Josh Freeman has a lot of talent and a big arm, which could make Williams a viable fantasy option from day one of his NFL career.
James Jones, Green Bay Packers: Jones has a lot of talent, but he's struggled to stand out in a really good Green Bay receiving corps. He's a natural fit next to Greg Jennings, and could fill a much more prominent role in the offense this year with Donald Driver struggling to come back from injury and getting a bit long in the tooth.
Darrius Heyward-Bey, Oakland Raiders: The Raiders' selection of Heyward-Bey in the top 10 of the 2009 draft left a lot of people scratching their heads, and his disappointing rookie season didn't help matters much, but there's no denying his physical gifts. Reports out of Oakland are that he's becoming more of a receiver, as opposed to just a great athlete. With a competent quarterback at the helm in Jason Campbell, the speedy receiver could show himself to be a quality player in the making.
Arrelious Benn, Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Believe it or not, we could see two rookies starting at wideout for the Bucs in Week 1. Benn hasn't set training camp on fire the way that Williams has, but he's starting to come on and recently received some praise from head coach Raheem Morris. It's a good bet that either Benn or Williams will be a solid fantasy option in 2010.
Brian Robiskie, Cleveland Browns: Robiskie was seen as one of the more NFL-ready rookie receivers in 2009, but failed to do much on the field last season. However, word is that he's looking solid this preseason and could benefit greatly from Jake Delhomme's presence.
Jabar Gaffney, Denver Broncos: With Brandon Marshall gone, someone is going to have to step up as the team's top receiver. While Eddie Royal should get more looks, Gaffney is the kind of sure-handed receiver that could end up paying dividends for fantasy owners. He's not going to sell a ton of NFL tickets, but he's consistent and reliable.
Anthony Gonzalez, Indianapolis Colts: Gonzalez is the forgotten man in the Indianapolis receiving corps, as an injury forced him to miss the 2009 season. There's a real chance that he puts some solid numbers, though, as he was expected to last season.
Brandon Tate, New England Patriots: Tate has been wowing people in training camp and the Pats may be forced to use him more than anticipated in his rookie season. He's definitely a guy to watch.
