Nhl Tickets - Sabres Vs. Penguins
Drew Stafford, Steve Montador and Jochen Hecht scored goals and the Buffalo Sabres defeated the Edmonton Oilers 3-1 on Nov
. 12. Buffalo goaltender Ryan Miller made 28 saves and helped his team snap a two-game losing streak. The Sabres (10-4-1) improved to 6-2-1 at home. Stafford opened the scoring with 4:29 left in the first period when he skated in on Edmonton's Nikolai Khabibulin and sent a backhander right over the goalie's left shoulder. The forward recorded his team-leading fifth goal of the season.
Buffalo made it 2-0 when Montador blasted a shot from the right circle and scored at 7:34 of the second period. Hecht finished the scoring with an empty-net goal with 19 seconds remaining.
Buffalo captain Craig Rivet said his team did a fantastic job of being really aggressive on the puck carriers. Although the Sabres started the season 8-1-1 they stumbled recently, losing three of four before beating Edmonton. The Sabers haven't faced a strong opponent at the start of the season, but that could change once the Pittsburgh Penguins visit the HSBC Arena on Dec. 19. The Penguins (12-7-0) have also struggled lately, dropping their fourth game in a row with a loss at home to New Jersey on Nov. 12. Penguins' Marc-Andre Fleury has not performed well between the pipes and is 2-6 after beginning the season 8-0. Pittsburgh captain Sidney Crosby snapped a career-worst five-game scoreless streak by assisting on Ruslan Fedotenko's goal in the first period of the New Jersey contest.
In the third period, Crosby tried to spark some energy on offense when he flicked a backhander on net, but the shot went off the left post. The captain had another chance to score on the power play, but his wrist shot ricocheted off the right post just seconds apart from his first attempt. Crosby admitted, "Two posts was not easy (to take) right now. It's a matter of time. That's how hockey works, it's not always fair and it doesn't always seem like it's right. I thought there were some chances to be had and some goals to be had."
Pittsburgh has failed to score a goal with the man advantage since star Evgeni Malkin left the lineup on Oct. 29 due to a strained right shoulder. Malkin, last season's scoring champion, could return to the lineup as early as Nov. 14.
The Penguins have been plagued with injuries early in the season and are missing six players. Can the wounded Penguins snag a road victory when they clash against the Sabres next month? Probably not. They haven't scored a goal on the PP in the last 25 tries, and Crosby can't do all of the scoring on his own. With Malkin out of the lineup, Pittsburgh has shuffled their lines in order to generate some scoring opportunities. Crosby usually is paired with Chris Kunitz and Bill Guerin, but since Guerin has recorded only three goals in 19 games, Crosby has been featured with Fedotenko and Kunitz. Will this line be able to produce scoring opportunities against Miller and get the Penguins back on track?
