Obama Chooses To File Suit Against The Recent Arizona Immigration Law
It had recently been proclaimed by the Obama officials that they have planned to file suit against the Arizona immigration law
. They claimed that the decision was made to alleviate the adverse effects of the law. Hillary Rodham Clinton, Secretary of State, confirmed it on a TV interview in Ecuador, even though the decision had been made long back.
Clinton is of the opinion that President Obama raised his opposition to the Arizona law as he feels that only the federal government is authorized to determine an immigration policy. and is more concerned about bringing a comprehensive immigration reform. She also mentioned that the Justice Department would soon file suit against the law.
Jan Brewer, Arizona governor who passed the illegal immigrant law reacted to Clintons announcement stating that she was ready to contest the suit.
Following Clintons announcement, a suit was filed against the Arizona immigration law by the Justice department. The law is scheduled to be effective from the end of July, 2010. The suit has been filed to request the U.S. District Court in Arizona to prevent the law from being enforced by the state. Gov. Jan Brewer and the state of Arizona were included as defendants in the suit. The suit claimed that Arizona immigration law has disrupted the authority of federal government on immigration enforcement.
According to the law suit, Arizona immigration law has been passed only to remove illegal immigrants and is less concerned about the other immigration objectives. The suit also emphasizes that the federal governments immigration regime cannot be replaced by Arizonas immigration policy, which is state-specific.
Attorney General Eric Holder also expressed his opinion and stated that the countrys security will be affected by this illegal immigrant law as the federal resources would be diverted from other dangerous resources, including suspects of terrorism and foreign nationals with criminal records.
