Obama Grants: A College Education Within Reach

It's widely accepted that education is important to having a successful future

. The President has on many occasions emphasized the need for a strong education system. Many important people are focused on increasing scholarship opportunities and improving education.

Although the economy has dramatically fallen, college prices have continued to rise for many years. Tuition and housing costs often far exceed scholarship offers. Many young adults choose to forgo college because of the cost. Single moms are especially affected in a bad way. Not only does educating mothers help provide for their families, but it also improves the workforce. The President has attempted to help by encouraging more grants for single mothers to attend school. There is no difference between Federal Pell Grants and Obama grants. The name "Obama grants" came as a result of the President's emphasis on educating moms. With these grants, college-bound students can receive over $5,000 to pay for school. Before Pell grants maxed out at about $4,000. The scholarship money covers practically all school-related expenses.

Another incentive to consider is the American Opportunity Tax Credit. Under this incentive program, education costs up to $4,000 are cleared. The $4,000 grant is especially great for low-income students. Both of these tax programs help single moms tremendously because they are traditionally low-income individuals. There are plenty of options on where, when and what a student can study. With more incentives, more ambitious adults will realize their goal to get a college degree.

Obama's efforts to improve education show that he takes this issue seriously. The stimulus plan that passed has some provisions to make the college loan process easier. There is also emphasis on ways to improve school and student achievement in all areas. There is also emphasis on encouraging more students to consider community college. Community colleges are more than a stepping stone on the way to a university. They are valuable institutions.

"We need to put a college education within reach of every American. That's the best investment we can make in our future." Those are the words of President Obama in his 2007 speech Reclaiming the American Dream. So far Obama's actions are backing up his words. If the goal is to educate as many as possible, making grants available for mothers is a good step. Traditional and non-traditional students alike have numerous opportunities to put their education first.
