Ohio State Off-campus Housing For Your Freshman Child
So your child is finally a freshman in college
. You are probably thinking in part of your brain that it went way too fast. The other side of your brain is probably planning your downtime now that there are no ball practices and school plays to schedule. All in all, you might be dreading this time. Not having a plan for where your child will be living can make it more difficult. That is why you need to head down in advance with your family and do some shopping for Ohio State off-campus housing.
It is important to remember that your child is an adult now, so you need to let them give their input as to what they are looking for in an apartment. It is also important to remind them that you know what is important when it comes to finding a place to live, and it is not all about what is inside of the house. Location, cost, safety, and convenience are all important factors to consider.
Location is important. You would not want your child's house next to a strip club or a bar. Ohio State off-campus housing is probably fairly close to the university, so that will be helpful, but there are probably good and bad neighborhoods even close to the university. You would be wise to go into the local police station and ask what areas have the fewest calls for disturbances, robberies or other problems.
The cost of Ohio State off-campus housing is also something to consider. Your child might not think this is anything to worry about if you have always paid their way. For you though, it is a big deal. You will not want to be putting out a large amount of money on an apartment along with paying for most of the tuition.
Safety is a very important consideration. It does have a lot to do with the location, but it also has to do with how the house is built and how old it is. Before putting down a first month's rent, you will want to do a thorough inspection of the property. You should check for mold issues from leaks, make sure the hot water works, and make sure the other students living in the house are above-board as well. The landlord should be a respectable individual that you can trust to be taking care of the building where your child is living.
Convenience is also important. Make sure it is close to city transportation as well and everything your child will need access to. You will not regret taking the time to make sure your child has Ohio State off-campus housing that you can trust.
