Green competitions can bring a bit of fun to the workplace while encouraging employees do their bit to make earth a better place to reside

. You can organize innovative competitions to engage your employees in some constructive fun, capitalizing on their enthusiasm for going green.

Ask anyone if they want to do their bit for stopping global warming and make the earth a better place to live and most of them will reply in the affirmative. Contrary to the popular perception to the indifference of an average person, most people are willing to do what they can for supporting something they deem good. Humans are generally good and persuaded in the right way, they are ready to act in positive manner.

If you are an employer who wants to make your workplace eco-friendly, you can rely on the goodwill of your employees for the cause. You can capitalize on your passive enthusiasm for going green. One of the ways to begin working is introducing green competitions.

Throw a park or property clean party to kickstart the campaign. Rather than a discotheque or a club, this party may be in a public park or space that needs an urgent cleaning act. People will go around with a bag and pick up the trash. When the party concludes, there will be a great trash weigh-in. Person with the heaviest bag may get a gift pass while the three people with the lightest bags may be tasked to carry the bags to the trash.

Another idea. Put up a list at the entrance asking the employees who use public transport or car pool to reach office to write their names on it. Carry on with the routine till the end of the month and conclude with an honor get together, rewarding those who mostly used collective travel. You can do that by gifting them diaries, pens or other such simple articles.

An average American office prints thousands of papers each year, which eventually contributes to the falling of trees. Divide your office into several teams, assigning them a certain amount of paper. At the end of the month, the team that still has the most paper left can get movie tickets.

We live in a society that has unconsciously developed the culture of disposal. One of your green competitions may target to inculcate in the people the culture or recycling. Ask your employees to bring in their electronics items as well as those of family and friends for recycling. At the end, evaluate their contribution by weighing the items submitted by them. Anyone who brings in the most pounds of electronics is the winner.

Battery collection can also encourage people to embrace green agenda. Every year, thousands of tons of batteries are thrown into landfills. People can be asked to collect the dead batteries for recycling. Anyone who emerges winner can be given a free day while the loser (one who has brought the least batteries) can be tasked to take the batteries to the recycling center.

Dont go overboard with the green competitions or employees may lose their interest. It is better to plan competitions ahead for the whole year with appropriate gap in between. With a well-planned schedule, you can subconsciously influence your people to cultivate habits of living green.
