Orlando Magic crushes the tumbling New York Knicks

It is going to take yet a little more time to finally see the New York Knicks with both Amare Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony getting their A-game together. Because there has to be no doubt about it, the Orlando Magic made it all look a bit too easy while taking down the New York Knicks in the legendary Madison Square Garden.

The truth is that the Knicks defense plainly sucks and even though they brought in a very significant improvement on their offensive presence in the paint with Carmelo Anthony, the multiplayer deal needed to land him in New York did very little for the Knicks defense. And that was made clear when last night Dwight Howard scored 33 points and took 11 rebounds as the Magic's big man was a bit too much to handle for the undersized team.

But Superman Howard wasn't the only player to bring on great things to the Magic. Jameer Nelson added 19 points, Hedo Turkoglu had 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Brandon Bass sealed off his part of the deal with 15 points for the Magic. Extra kudos go to Orlando's defense which held the Knicks Amare Stoudemire to his worst game this season and Carmelo Anthony with 24 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists. Despite Melo's efforts he couldn't keep the Knicks from winning their matchup for the sixth straight time and 13th in the past 15.

Someone from the bench yelled "too small" and he was right on target. Yes, overall the Knicks are just too small. At least they are too small when you go one-on-one to guys like Kevin Garnett, LeBron James or Howard himself. New York started Ronny Turiaf at center in an attempt to stop Howard and Co. The problem is that Turiaf is an inch shorter and 20 pounds lighter then Howard. And that was certainly a decisive factor as, once he got on fire, Howard scored 19 points in the second half, when the Knicks shot only 14-of-44 and plainly sucked.

Things weren't looking that bad for the New York Knicks until halftime. As a matter of fact that Knicks were ahead 59-55 entering the third quarter. But Orlando turned up the defense after the halftime break holding the Knicks to 7-of-23 shooting and taking a 79-78 at the end of the third quarter. The Magic took a lead with a 9-0 run at the beginning of the fourth quarter and never looked back.

Chauncey Billups and Toney Douglas each scored 17 points each for the Knicks, while Stoudemire had an awful game. He really struggled to get his tempo going in the first half and went 2 for 8 for just 4 points. He was extremely well defended by the Orlando Magic's Brando Bass who managed to hold him down to just 2 points and fouled him just once.

Stoudemire has had a couple of very complicated games. He was a non-factor in their previous loss against the Boston Celtics and he was certainly detached from this game against the Magic. It seems that once Melo came in, he hasn't been able to find his place in the teams hierarchy. And the whole franchise is suffering because of it.
