British summertime is just around the corner and it's time to order that outdoor furniture to give diners and drinkers a summer to remember.

Graham Waring, Director at contract furniture manufacturer Warings Furniture, offers Hotel Business his views on what's hot in outdoor hospitality. And how to guarantee your investment in outdoor furniture maximises summer trade.

"Outdoor furniture is a significant business investment. It has to be of outstanding quality to withstand summer customers using it all day long.

"Ultimately, furniture should maximise cover numbers. If you're a city or town based hotel, chances are you won't have space for vast, awkward pieces so select versatile items that give the freedom of flexible layouts. Small square tables, that can be butted up together, are ideal for courtyards or street spaces and look chic too.

"Overnight theft and damage is a risk, so outdoor furniture should be stored inside. Bulky furniture is harder to steal, but staff won't thank you for choosing it when they're packing away last thing. Opt for stackable or folding pieces and invest in a trolley to make the job easier. It'll also give peace of mind to know your investment's tucked away. Warings' new 2011 stacking chair is the Mezzi, which is already proving popular with customers, and was snapped up by Gourmet Burger Kitchen, (GBK) for its London outlets.

"Maintenance is a must as the British summertime is unpredictable! Your furniture needs care and attention to survive the season so keep maintenance to a minimum by opting for hardwearing materials. New this season, we've launched a non-wood resin plastic range which imitates teak but doesn't need annual rubbing down and oiling. It's perfect for outdoor spaces, endures heavy use and is as beautiful as teak too.

"A trend we'll see more of this season is high level seating. The fast pace of everyday life means business customers eat and drink on the go. Perching at a high bench or stool gives that feel. Our Bacchus range is our bestseller, particularly with customers furnishing outdoor lounges or spas. The range looks like rattan but is more durable as it has a PU weave with an aluminium frame. Soft furnishings aren't restricted to internal spaces and coordinating cushions look great. We make them from breathable foam so the rain can escape. They have UV protection too, so last well.
