Overcoming Information Overload In Your Business
Overcoming Information Overload In Your Business
One of the biggest problems that I have seen a lot of people fighting is information overload. I see it a lot in various training programs, blogs, and forums within the IM industry, and I personally believe that it is one of the leading causes of the super high failure rate in this business.
So, today, I thought I would share a little bit about how to avoid information overload and see what other people are doing to combat this problem.
Training Brain Crush
The first area I want to address is the training itself. IF you try going through the entire library that Jack and the Crew have put together here, you are going to get brain overload really fast.
Look at Blog Success as a library. If you went to the library, you wouldn't try to read every book, (at least not all at once). Instead, you would pick out a book that is focused on what you want to read or learn about right now.
The same can be applied to the information here. IF you don't even have a domain set up yet, you don't need to be worried about how to get traffic, monetize a site, or anything else for that matter. Focus on how to choose your niche, research it, and get your basic blog set up.
KISS IT
Keep It Simple Stupid
My grandpa used to tell me that daily, and it is a driving factor in everything I do. Keep things simple, and focus on ONE thing at a time. As you go through the pdf doccuments (like the 60 day plan) do one step. Read what it says to do,and don't read any further until you have completed what it says to do. ( I don't care if it SAYS 1 day, if it takes a week, then take a week, but don't even read day 2 if you haven't finished day 1 yet.)
The same is true on content development. Do each step, and don't go on to the next step until you have done that step.
Now, as you get more comfortable with each step, then you can start moving a little faster, and doing different things over time. For example, you don't have to write a months worth of blog posts at once. But, I would say sit down and write up 1 weeks worth. Then, set them up to drip feed over time. Then, work on the 60 day plan for the rest of the week.
Give Your Brain Time to Catch UP
Personally, I take at least 1 day a week off. I don't even LOOK at the computer. Some weeks it is Saturday, some weeks it is Sunday, but your brain needs that time off to process all of the information that you are going through.
If you don't you will get more and more overwhelmed with all the information that you are trying to process. I know a lot of people are desperate for money and they think that if they rush and work all the time, they will be successful faster.
I used to think the same way myself. Then one day I realized something. Successful people don't have time to take off because they are successful. They are successful because they take time off and allow their mind time to figure out their problems without them bashing their head against the wall ( also laptops don't fly very well, but that's another story).
Write It Down
As you learn each step, write it down in your own words. Summarize it, and keep it. If you aren't in the IM niche, you can still get some use out of that info. Maybe you could sell it as a PLR pack later on, or perhaps you could just buy a domain, set up a redirect with your BS aff link and post them on Ezine Articles. Or you can just set them aside for later in case you do decide to try out the IM niche.
When I started my IM blog, it was after listening to an interview Mark Ling did with Jack, and I realized that blog would be a great place to put all that stuff I was writing about IM as I was learning. I was surprised at how many people started reading it, because I was writing it to clarify things for myself, not to teach others (and I didn't even do anything to promote the blog). But, it wound up being my first site making consistent money.
Overcoming Information Overload In Your Niche
You can use that in your own niche too. When choosing a niche, look for something you want to improve in your life. Choose that niche.
There are a lot of people (mainly fake wannabes in the IM niche) who tell you that you have to be an expert to succeed. With a blog, that is totally not the case. In fact, I make more money when I claim to be a regular joe bloe than when I try to establish myself as an expert in the niche. Go figure that one out.
Buy a program to teach you how to do it, and as you go through each step of the course, write up a summary of what you learned that day.
Now, you have a blog post.
Repeat that process every day , and you will learn a lot of great info yourself, and you will be starting up your blog at the same time.
Think about this, if you write a blog post every day summarizing what you are learning with a product, then once you complete that course, you are a running case study for that product.
Then, you do a product review, telling about your success, you have already established your authority with that product, and you will convert those readers into sales.
Share that blog post on social sites, (where you would be hanging out anyway, with other people trying to learn the same stuff you are) and you will get traffic to the blog. I love doing this myself by commenting on other blogs, and going into forums. However, you can do it on FB groups, hubpages, squidoo (if your niche isn't blacklisted) and any other site where you hang out with people interested in your niche topic.
Now, rather than getting overwhelmed with trying to post loads of info from a variety of sources, you are focusing your efforts on one thing.
As you read through blog posts in your Infromation Overloard system, write up a sumarry of what you are learning, and you have a blog post.
I did this for a while every Friday, (although I should start doing it again.) I would listen to the Friday Traffic Report, and I would right up a summary of what Jack and Jim talked about, link to the FTR post, and share it with my readers. (although I wish I could get my BS aff commissions for all the people I sent to FTR, LOL)
The great thing about this is that without trying to be an expert, you can ask total newbie questions, get answers, and still not kill your reputation by asking questions that you shouldn't if you were the expert.
Remember, you don' t need to be an expert, you need to be an authority figure. There is a HUGE difference. An expert is someone who knows all the answers, an Authority figure is someone who knows where to find them.
Authority is built over time. As you ask questions, and help people find the answers to their questions, you will build authority, and trust with your potential customers. (Remember, every visitor to your blog is a customer, whether they buy something or not).
