Owning An Air Mattress Proves Handy
Sleeping in one's own bed is preferred by most people
. But even when a person must spend the night away from home, it does not have to result in discomfort and sleeplessness. For occasions like traveling out of town or going fishing or camping, an air mattress provides an alternative to sleeping on the ground or on a cot or couch.
Konrad Kyeser invented the first airbed in medieval Germany. This military general created an inflatable bed out of leather and twine. Today's mattresses are made out of sturdier materials, namely PVC vinyl plastic or rubber. Some beds feature soft linings of felt or similar materials. Other components of an air bed can include a foundation, either solid or split, rails, and rubber sheets for covering.
Inflatable beds include a chamber for filling it with air. This chamber holds a substantial amount of air, which means that children and adults alike can use the bed. Airbeds have been recognized by the medical community as helping people who suffer from arthritis and other skeletal and muscular problems sleep better. Pregnant women can sleep on airbeds without having to fear sleeping on their stomachs. These beds form themselves around people's bodies and provide support.
These beds are very hard to harm, as a matter of fact. They can withstand a number of children bouncing up and down on them without the air being released from the valve. Such treatment rarely results in the mattress bursting. Sometimes, however, circumstances might arise that the mattress sustains a small hole or puncture. In that event, the makers often include a repair patch or repair kit that allows for repairing the damage. If taken care of properly, these mattresses can last a long time.
Airbeds come in a variety of sizes and colors. People tend to like bigger size mattresses as they allow for more movement during the night and allow more than one person to sleep on the bed. Manufacturers now offer colors and themes that appeal to both children and adults. Colors for these beds include pink, camouflage, blue, red, yellow, and floral. Children's themes include princess and race cars.
Inflating these portable beds is accomplished by using the bed's valve and blowing air into the bed's chamber. The owner can attach an air hose to the bed's valve and pump the desired amount of air into the bed's air chamber. Newer models now feature air valves that use batteries for quick and easy inflating. These newer valves can be activated by pressing a button or by pressing firmly on the valve.
Because the beds hold quite a bit of air, they can also be used in water as a raft or as a pool toy. Some mattress makers also make pool toys in the same manner as they make air beds, only smaller to fit a child's size.
Owning a modern air mattress can prove useful if a person is expecting company or planning a fishing or camping trip. These unique beds are durable and made out of strong plastic or rubber. As much, they provide an alternative to sleeping on the ground or on a cot.
