Oximeters Used By Paramedics

No matter what the medical emergency, the doctor replies heavily on a paramedic to

his or her job in order to receive the emergency patient in a condition he or she can work with. In order to do this, vital signs of the emergency patient are key for communication from the paramedic to the receiving doctor. Speed and accuracy are critical in emergency situations. All paramedics take the blood pressure of the patient, and SPO2 readings, but recently new technology has been released which makes taking SPO2 readings faster while maintaining accuracy.

Finger pulse oximeter and hand held pulse oximeter provide paramedics a new resource in comparison to before where they were restricted to large bulky oximeters. These new pulse oximeters have the same functions of the old devices, yet with more accuracy and portability. A pulse oximeter, also know as a pulse ox by some, is used to measure the blood oxygen saturation level of a patient, and take a pulse rate reading as well. Both of these parameters are recorded within seconds of the application of a pulse oximeter to the patient's finger. The popularity of a fingertip pulse oximeter with paramedics has transferred into the hospital setting too. Just a simple walk down the halls of any hospital or clinic you will find that many nurses and doctors carry a pulse ox around their neck via a lanyard or in his or her pocket.

There are many companies out there that want to sell you a finger pulse oximeter, but how do you decide? The answer is simple. Do not always jump to the lowest price, because that is not right parameter. What you want to shoot for it quality and reputation. A recent study done by our group revealed that Pulse Oximeters Plus provide high quality oximeters with all of their accessories starting for under $40.
