Packing Tips for House Removals

Moving is almost always stressful

Moving is almost always stressful. Not only do you have to deal with all the financial aspects of the move, but it has a tendency to upend your household. One of the most time consuming things to deal with is packing. It's also one of the most important. If you don't get it right, you could end up with set of broken china or heirlooms or missing that last piece to your bedroom set! Here are some tips to help make packing a little bit easier on the whole family and the removal company.

House removals are quite a bit different from office removals. There is a usually a larger variety of things to move and you usually don't have as much help as an office does. There are a few things you'll need to ensure that everything is not only packed well, but that it also makes it easier for the removal company. Most people underestimate the number of boxes they will need and they end up scrambling to find more. Add about ten percent more to the total that you think you will and you'll probably have enough. Make sure they are strong, sturdy cartons. They should have lids or flaps. Gather up packing materials, such as newspapers or Styrofoam peanuts. You may want to consider using towels and other linens for your more fragile items, too.

Strong packing tape is recommended and lots of it. A wide magic marker will help you keep track of what is in each box and which room it goes in. This will help the removal company get the box in the right place when they are unloading the van. Plastic crates can also be helpful, but don't fill them so full that they can't be stacked upon one another. House removals can also benefit from bin liners for items such as pillows, blankets, and sheets.

Fill the boxes carefully, ensuring your most fragile items are completely separated from one another. Don't fill the cartons so full that it requires more than one person to carry. This will help the removal company get the loading and unloading done faster. Some items may be so heavy that there is not choice but to use two people to move the box. Mark this on the box, so the mover is aware of the weight before they try to pick the carton up.

House removals involve all different kinds of items, including appliances and lawn care items. Check with the removal company ahead of time to see what their requirements are for items such as lawn mowers. You may have to empty the fuel out of the mower before the company will move it.

In closing, there are a number of things to consider before moving. Packing is certainly the longest part of the process. Make sure you have enough time to pack properly. It usually takes a lot longer than most people think. House removals don't have to be stressful when you have enough planning ahead of time.
