Passing The Police Initial Recruitment Tests
There are a number of stages in the police recruitment process
, the first being the successful completion of a police application form. This application stage is where the large majority of applicants are sifted out by the recruitment staff with the stronger candidates being asked to attend an assessment centre.
While it is certainly an achievement to make it through the first stage, it is here where the hard work and preparation really begins. You will be assessed all the way through the day to determine whether you fit the role of a police officer and have demonstrated the necessary core competencies. As the saying goes if you fail to prepare then prepare to fail and this could not be closer to the truth. Those candidates that do well during the assessment centre have more often than not put time and effort into researching the role of the police officer, learning the core competencies, taken practice test papers and thought about the type of interview questions that will come up and how they will answer them.
The police initial recruitment tests form part of the assessment centre process which also involves a variety of role play scenarios and a final interview with a board of senior officers. The strongest candidates are often the ones who have prepared for the type of questions they will be asked. The more you practice the type of questions the more comfortable you become and the more relaxed you will be on the.
Those candidates that believe you cannot prepare for the assessment centre and just turn up on the day hoping that the answers they think up on the spot will be ok. The truth is that when you are put on the spot your do not think clearly and often mutter the first answer that comes into your head and this often does not make sense. The first key point is therefore preparation beforehand.
But there will be candidates who argue how can you prepare for the assessment centre as you are not told what happens on the day until you arrive. The answer is simply, use the most powerful research tool ever devised; the internet. The rapid growth of the internet has meant that people are now able to share information quicker and easier than ever before. There are police recruitment websites that will provide you with information about the whole recruitment process; there are police recruitment forums and blogs to name but a few. The second key point is research and accsess the information available to you.
A lot of this information is available for free but there are also a variety of police training courses which are typically one day training courses focused solely on the recruitment process. There are also books and guides with sample test questions and answers for you to practice. So the third point here is to use the resources available to you to ensure you are fully prepared. The competition for the role is going to be truth and you will need to show the recruitment staff you are more suitable for the role than the next candidate.
Finally, if you want to be successful then simply copy people who are already successful and by this I mean learn from people who have already been through the selection process, know what to expect and learn fro them exactly what they did to succeed. Chances are if it worked for them it will work for you.
