How PayPal is Streamlining its Services for the Mobile Community

Buying and selling through PayPal just got easier! The company is launching its new Mobile Express Checkout, which will allow PayPal-users to purchase products using a quick, two-click checkout system. PayPal reports that the test drive has already proven the service a success, with companies that tried it out experiencing double-digit sales jumps in their mobile stores.

So which companies are offering this handy service? Starbucks is the first company up to bat, and will be using Mobile Express Checkout to allow you to reload your Starbucks cards directly from an app on your iPhone or iPod touch. Plenty of other companies will certainly be following suit.

Not sure which companies in your area accept PayPal? Another new feature the company now offers is a location-based app that lets you search for businesses that allow you to shop with PayPal. Right now, the beta is available to iPhone users living the in the San Francisco Bay Area.

PayPal has also streamlined its mobile payment options. Now preapproved payments can make business run smoother for companies who offer or rely on user subscriptions. Chain or split payments can now allow developers to take a cut of buyer-seller transactions.

But that's not all. PayPal is also in cahoots with Appcelerator, an application publisher, to help PayPal merchants build their own mobile commerce apps for iOS, Android and BlackBerry. The company team reports that a joint mobile commerce offer is in the works and will be released by next year.

PayPal is by no means new to the mobile marketplace. The company has been offering mobile services to iOS, Android, and BlackBerry users for the past five years, and business is booming. By the end of this year, PayPal expects to wrack up $700 million in mobile paymentsnearly five times the sum of last year.
