Persistent Ingrown Hairs? Think About Laser Hair Removal
Ingrown hairs: a trivial annoyance that both men and women cope with from time to time
. Usually, with a little quick maneuvering with a pair of tweezers, the problem is remedied and we move on with our lives.
But what of those of us that dread shaving because the results yield much more than mere annoyances? Persistent, painful ingrown hairs can make getting ready for each day nearly unbearable. I have known many people that have experienced that ongoing pain; I have known it myself. What can be done? Let me give you some answers.
First off, if you are always suffering from ingrown hairs soon after a shave in a particular spot (face, neck, or underarms, for example), it may be because you are not following a shaving or waxing routine as you should.
You should be shaving during or after a warm shower, as the hot water softens both the hair and the skin, creating less irritation. NEVER shave dry, especially when you are treating your underarms. If your skin is especially sensitive, then switch to a shaving foam or gel and a razor that caters to your specific needs.
Make sure to moisturize the skin thoroughly afterward, which can be done with an aftershave lotion or baby oil (best used on the legs). Taking these steps won't eradicate ingrown hairs, but you should encounter fewer of them if you weren't following this regimen before.
Ingrown hairs can become the center of a small infection inside the skin. It's gross, I know--but they are much like pimples in that bacteria and dead skin cells can fuel the infection and create a pus-infused lump. To prevent this, wear loose-fitting, breathable clothing like cotton and wash the agitated stretch of skin daily.
Waxing tends to prevent the effects of ingrown hairs better than shaving, but this is usually not a helpful solution for men, who are facing the difficulty on their necks and faces. Plus, many people find this too painful to do on a regular basis. What's more, the process tends to stimulate quick re-growth, meaning it becomes an endless cycle.
That's why the long-term suggestion I always give people is to investigate laser hair removal. The stereotype is that women are the only patrons of this cosmetic procedure when, in fact, I have known many men who became fed up with the irritation they faced with daily shaving.
Trust me, I know how uncomfortable it can be to constantly deal with ingrown hairs. I started developing cyst-like growths along my bikini line when I first started shaving there. Lucky for me, I got wise very quickly and did the research on laser hair removal.
