Personalising Your New Home
Whether you were heavily involved in the planning and construction of your property
or you're just looking to add a personal touch to your house, it can be easy to customise your property and make it feel truly like a home when you choose attractive furniture for all rooms.
Choosing furniture is a big decision that should not be taken lightly. Even if you find a great deal on the pieces you like, it's important to remember that this furniture will be in your home for a long time, and might never be replaced if you choose a durable material such as hard woods. For this reason, it can be best to avoid contemporary designs that seem fashionable at present but may soon become outdated relics, instead favouring functional or tried-and-tested classic designs that won't let you down.
As well as the aesthetic concerns of your new furniture featuring in generations of family photos, it is of course vital to consider the practical aspects of your furnishing decisions - especially whether your rooms have enough space to comfortably accommodate them. Your furniture needs to be comfortably ensconced against walls or otherwise out of the way, blending seamlessly in with your other furnishings when not in use.
While choosing your bedroom furniture is entirely a matter of personal taste between you and whoever you may be sharing the room with, other rooms that will host public events need to be considered with a wider view, to ensure you have enough space and enough
dining tables and chairs to accommodate guests and visiting friends and family.
Consider how often you will be using the room to help you get a clearer idea of what such furniture will be for - for instance, whether the dining room table will be exclusively for meals, or if your children can use it as a place to do their homework too. Such decisions could help you plan whether the room should have a more relaxed and casual or formal feel to help reinforce this purpose.
Designing your home need not be a stressful experience with too many variables to consider, but as long as you strike an effective balance between function, style and safety - such as keeping dining room chairs at least 48 inches from the wall and not leaving gaps behind furniture - you should be able to enjoy a life of luxury in your new home.
