Peter Drucker, the Most Influential Business Thinker of the 20th Century

BusinessWeek magazine called Peter Drucker "The Man Who Invented Management". Peter Drucker was a writer, management consultant, teacher, and "social ecologist". His scholarly work, which focused on business management and marketing, was and still is highly influential in the business world. His work explored how humans are organized in the business, government, and non-profit sectors. Drucker, through his scholarship, predicted many of the major economic developments in the late twentieth century. These predictions include privatization and decentralization, the rise of Japan to an economic world power, the exponentially increasing role of marketing for any business, and the emergence of the information society that necessitated a lifetime of learning.

As we head deeper into the 21st century, Peter Drucker's legacy lives on. It lives on through those who continue to hail his path breaking insights; and through those businesses and non-profits on which Drucker left an indelable imprint. His legacy lives on through the faculty, staff, students, and alumni of Drucker-ito School of Management, where Drucker taught for the last 4 decades of his storied career. It lives on through the Peter F. Drucker Academy in China. It lives on through the Drucker Difference column in BusinessWeek Magazine. Above all, it lives on in Drucker's own words in his 39 books and many more articles on organization, social responbsibility, innovation, and effectiveness.

Drucker's legacy also lives on through a unique set of volunteer organizations that are actively converting his teachings into real results. These Drucker Societies are drawing from Drucker's vast body of work for information and inspiration as they seek to affect positive change in their local communities.

On July 9, 2002, Peter Drucker was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom as his work enabled hundreds of people to empower themselves enough to create positive social change.
