Philadelphia Eagles Tickets - Starting Vick In Week Three Is Right Move

, which is something that Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid has certainly learned over the years. This week, Reid once again showed that he knows what he's doing by starting Michael Vick over nicked up Kevin Kolb, even though the franchise still wants Kolb as their long-term solution at the position. Coming off of an impressive performance in Detroit, Vick has the hot hand right now for the Eagles, and it's difficult to argue with the hot hand in a short 16-game season.

The one knock on Vick over the years has been that he's really just a great athlete playing the quarterback position. Vick certainly is a great athlete, of course, which also helps to sell plenty of Philadelphia Eagles tickets, but Vick has actually shown more than his ability to run over the first two weeks of the season. With three touchdowns and no picks, Vick has an excellent 105.5 QB rating and has been more than comfortable throwing in the pocket. If he can throw down the field, his ability to make plays in the running game as well makes him a very dangerous player.

Even with a couple of good games from Vick, however, Reid's first instinct was to go back to his starting quarterback, a decision that was short-lived. With the city of Philadelphia howling for the more explosive and proven Vick to start, Reid decided that Vick was the best option for week three as Kolb continues to come back from a concussion he suffered in week one against the Packers. Though the move may or may not be a long-term plan for Reid, Vick now has the opportunity that he's been looking for ever since coming back from his much-publicized legal issues and suspension from the league.

The brilliance of the move for Reid, though, is that it places him in a win-win situation. If Vick and the Eagles continue to win, he can easily justify continuing to go with Vick and allowing Kolb to fully recover before plunging him back into the starting role. On the flip side, if Vick falters and the Eagles lose a couple games in a row, then Reid will be able to put Kolb back in without taking much flack from fans and the media. Everyone knows of Philly's notorious passion for the Eagles, and putting Kolb back in at this point could be setting him up to fail. If Kolb were to start and lose against the Jags in week three, the entire city may never actually get behind him as the starting quarterback.

If this was a rebuilding year, the decision would have been much easier, but the Eagles are 1-1 and have plenty of talent on both sides of the ball. After Vick nearly led a comeback in week one against the Packers, one of the premier teams in the league, they then came back and won on the road against the improving Lions. LeSean McCoy looks like the real deal after two weeks, with 6.7 yards per carry, more than 200 combined yards and four total touchdowns. DeSean Jackson has also been explosive once again in 2010 and Jeremy Maclin has proven that he has a nose for the endzone. Though they had a few defensive lapses against the Lions, the Eagles have enough firepower on offense to win games and challenge for a playoff spot.

But week three for the Eagles will be all about Vick. Nobody has ever doubted that he's been an exciting player, though now he'll have a limited time audition and prove that he's a viable starting quarterback in the NFL. No matter what type of numbers he puts up, though, the NFL can actually be fairly simple: if Vick wins, he'll continue to play. It doesn't get much simpler than that.
