Philadelphia Film Schools

For quite awhile now, Philadelphia film schools have long been thought to give the best education in anything related to the entertainment business

. Home to the popular Philadelphia film festival which showcases nearly forty movies every year with fifteen countries from around the world including the United States represented. In addition, it's also known as one of the best shooting locations in the country - remember Philly's favorite son, Rocky Balboa?

Not surprisingly, the primary question an excited future film student asks is where exactly he must go to school. Before answering that question, get to know the city that houses that school first. Much can be learned through day to day living and interacting with those that have lived in that area for several years. Philadelphia film schools, fortunately, have something to be proud of since the city where they are situated has a rich history, culture and roster of film events.

Philadelphia film schools include universities, colleges, institutes and independent study with a long arm of courses and programs. The Art Institute of Philadelphia, for instance, was established in 1971 and is quickly becoming a provider of a well-rounded approach to film education.

The Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts and Design Film Program at Drexel (try repeating that two times fast) is a unique broadcast, entertainment and multi-media program which provides exciting opportunities for its students. Since the teachers are industry professionals (writers, editors, filmmakers), they're able to provide a better kind of education to their students. In their freshman year, students make their own film and do so every year until graduation. Housed within this school at Drexel is a program that only chooses fifty freshman who participate in smaller classes, interaction and mentorship as well as a greater access to cameras and equipment. Finally, this school which includes the Drexel Co-Op provides students with professional employment experience.

Filmtech, a Philadelphia independent film school, has a different take on Philadelphia film schools. More or less, its ten- or twenty-week program is a crash course in film and video production, directing cinematography and screenwriting. This is a certificate program with both classroom and hands on instruction.

Temple University's Department of Film and Media Arts is one of the most outstanding Philadelphia film schools. Proud to be the 28th largest university of the United States, this school is located in the heart of Philly. The Temple University is ideal for every budding filmmaker with its course offerings including Media and Culture, Film and Video Analysis, New Media, Filmmaking and Film Production. With Philadelphia film schools, truly, no one "couldn't have done nothing with you."
