The phone book is a tool often used to help locate professionals within a given area. Even as today's society grows less reliant on these books and more dependent on computer generated searches, they continue to be utilized on a regular basis. However, the amount of spam continues to increase in these books and become less reliable with every update.

Conduct a test of your own. Open any local phone book and look for "locksmiths." The results are displayed on numerous pages, with several different companies all within one area, yet the addresses and most of the information is false.

So who is the real culprit?

First, make no mistake about it, these phony locksmiths companies are to blame. They over-charge, use bully tactics and flood information pools with incorrect information. Not only is this practice unethical, it's downright appalling. They prey on residential customers who are locked out of their homes and who are completely at these scammers mercy. Conducting business in such a manner should result in jail time for everyone involved in the operation.

Secondly, place a majority of the blame on the phone book companies. The willingness to ignore blatantly false information in order to make more sales, is as fraudulent a practice as the scammers themselves. As long as the false listing is paid for, the phone book prints them with no concern about factual information or integrity.
