Pipeppets And Their Uses
Pipettes
Pipettes
A pipette is a laboratory instrument that can be used to transport a measured volume of liquid. Pipettes are one of the greatest innovations in science and research because it aids much on tests in laboratory and provides accuracy in the smallest details of each test. Pipette is also known as pipette, pippetor or chemical dropper. Pipettes are commonly used in molecular biology and in medical tests. They are available in different shapes and their accuracy and precision varies from a single piece pipette to more complex adjustable, electronic pipettes. Many pipettes work like creating a partial vacuum above the liquid holding chamber and selectively dispensing this vacuum to draw up and dispense. Pipettes that dispense between 1 and 1000 micro liters are termed as micropipettes. These types of pipettes dispense large volume of water. There are two types of micropipettes: air displacement pipette and positive displacement pipette. Disposable and single used pipettes are often made out of polystyrene.
There are different types of air displacement pipettes:
1)Adjustable or fixed
2)Volume handled
3)Single channel, multichannel or repeater
4)Conical tips or cylindrical tips
5)Standard or locking
6)Manual or electronic
7)Manufacturer
Some of the different types of pipettes are:
1)Positive displacement pipettes: These are similar to air displacement pipettes but are not used commonly.
2)Vacuum assisted pipettes: These are used in chemistry labs and used with aqueous solutions. There are two types of vacuum assisted pipettes. They are:
a)Volumetric pipettes- This type of pipettes allows the user to measure the volume of liquid, accurately. They are commonly used to make laboratory solutions from a base stock as well as prepare solutions for titration.
b) Graduated pipettes-This type of pipettes use a series of marked lines to indicate different calibrated volumes. These all comes in variety of sizes. There are two types of graduated pipettes. They are: i) Mohr pipettes
ii) Serological or blow-out pipettes.
Pipette accessories are:
1)Pipette filler: used to fill the pipette easily, avoiding the need of mouth pipetting.
2)Pipette helpers: are battery-operated and are designed to be used with disposable pipet tubes.
3)Pipette tips: The pipettors and injection molded plastic disposable tips form together a reliable pipetting system.
4)Light-guided pipetting systems: are pipeting accessories which are computer-based.
Eppendorf pipettes
Eppendorf pipettes are commonly used for transferring small volumes of liquid. These comes in a variety of sizes, some of which deliver a fixed volume of liquid and for some, the volume can be adjusted. An eppendorf pipette is called a constant volume pipette.
Rainin pipettes
Rainin offers a large selection of hand-friendly pipettes.Rainins vast selection of pipettes and
tips cover just about every application.
Matrix pipette
Usually, matrix pipette tips guarantees precise pipetting results. Matrix has got the experience, knowledge and resources to offer an unparalleled selection of fully integrated solutions for the laboratory. Thermo scientific matrix electronic serological pipette filler is a light-weight, cordless pipette filler that allows longer, fatigue-free pipetting.
