Points To Consider When Shopping For A Dog House

Prior to setting out in pursuit of a dog house

, it is a good idea to make a few assessments of what are essential needs to accommodate. This may be a simple choice for some, or there may be elements missed which are vital to proper shelter and well-being of a dog. The market for houses is vast and there are countless units sold already constructed, building kits, and opportunities to custom order to specifications. There are some basic yet important needs to assess, such as:

How often will the dog be outdoors and in need of a house?

--Every pet owner has a different perspective of where the pet spends most of there time. Some pet-owners have there pets indoors most of the time and the pet is either just out for walks and to go potty. To the other extreme, some prefer there pet to virtually live outdoors. These vast differences will ultimately shift the basic needs of a shelter for the animal.

What climate is the location?

--Vast differences of climate and locations have an affect on what a proper house would need.

Cold - In predominantly cold climates an insulated house would be ideal if the pet is to spend a fair bit of time outside. This will protect them from harsh elements. Choosing a location which is protected from bitter cold and gusting wind is advisable.

Hot - In hot conditions it is necessary that the house has some ventilation and a supply of water, maybe even food if the dog will be outside for a while. It does not take that long for pets to become overheated and be at risk for heat stroke. So in extreme heat a pet should be kept in a cool place and sheltered.

Wet - In locations that receive a lot of rain it is wise to ensure that the house is in an area that will not become flooded. This actually goes for most areas.

Mixed weather conditions - A large number of locations will essentially face all four seasons in varying degrees of temperature, rain, and even snow. A house that is well insulated with an option of ventilation- either a removable window or venting can make a house suitable for all types of weather.

Is this a permanent or temporary location?

-- Not every pet owner owns the property they reside. Taking into account any potential in moving and the mobility a purchase will have is essential.

What are the dog's personal needs?

-- Is the dog large or small? Taking measurements is ideal to make sure the house will be large enough.

-- Is the dog skittish about entering small areas? Each dog has its own personality, just as humans. Some are uncomfortable about getting into small areas. Some may frown upon entering a flapping styled door. Others may insist upon having a cozy environment with plush bedding, food, water, toys, etc. Maybe even a ventilation fan to reduce heat.

These points answered will make shopping much more convenient and ensure that an appropriate dog house is found to meet ones companions needs.
