Position Yourself Ahead of the Next Job Wave

You may not feel it completely yet, or maybe not at all yet, but the job market is starting to warm up. In fact the latest job report reported nonfarm payroll employment increased by 151,000 in October. Maybe you have been looking for a job for months or want to start looking for a career change. Keep your head up and get smart about what fields are going to be in the highest demand as we roll out of this recession and journey out into a new economic environment.

Sure its not easy to suddenly becoming more qualified for any job. It takes education and experience. However, you can't get either of those without doing some research and getting motivated about improving your life.

So what's warming up first. Well although it may not be ideal, its temporary jobs that are increasing first. After hitting a low in September 2009, temporary help services have added 451,000 jobs. Temp positions offer 3 valuable things in my opinion. 1) Wages. 2) Experience and resume building. 3) Often a foot in the door at the company you are temping for. Number 3 is an extra bonus that some people overlook. Bust your butt in a temporary roll position and you may be heading to the big leagues with a nice promotion and benefits.

While in a temp role, if you can manage, you can also enroll in an online degree. As a part time student, you can work towards a degree in a field you find interesting at your own pace. My advice, look towards an education in fields where jobs can't be easily outsourced, where wages fit your needs, and where there is an outlook for positive job growth. Some of these industries include health care, computer engineers, all sorts of engineers, technical writing, security systems installer, plumbers, network architects, and project managers.
