Postlaminectomy-Failed Back Surgery, Is Not The Cure For Bulged Disks

Here's another reason not to have back surgery. The term postlaminectomy is given to the all too often encountered, failed back surgery. Bulging disks or herniated discs are often directed to undergo open back surgery after an MRI scan.

The not surprising news is that these surgeries often fail. They fail often enough to get their own term.

A common type of laminectomy is performed to permit the removal or reshaping of a spinal disc as part of a lumbar discectomy. This treatment for a herniated disc, bulging or degenerated disc removes material from the area in order to reduce pain in a patient. Apparently this is not working. In a similar study published last month, 27%, over a quarter of surgeries, failed. Repeated surgeries had to be performed, up to four in one patient. Some of this surgeries resulted in death and infections.

Perhaps nothing should be removed, and everything left intact, and instead, focus should be place on strengthening the surrounding tissue.

In his books and videos Dr, John E. Sarno a Professor of Clinical Rehabilitation Medicine at New York University School of Medicine, and attending physician at the Howard A. Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine, talks about the relationship of the mind and pain.

Having cured over ten thousand patients without any surgery, his methods should be more closely evaluated than they currently are.

Is the pain solely psychosomatic, or is it more than that? When in pain, I would attack everything on all fronts. Everything that is except for surgery, which is a one way road. There is no way back and risks are too great. Wait a few years or decades until science acquires the knowledge needed to understand the reasons behind the pain most adults feel in their backs from a bulging disk, at least once in their lifetimes.

Follow in the footsteps of success, and be open to listen to some proven systems. It took me two years of looking for a solution myself, until I started following the right method.I did not discover Dr. Sarno until after I healed myself, but after reading his theory, I have to say I completely agree.
