Power Protection Systems Let There Be Light

As the name sounds, the power protection systems are devices used for the phenonmenon of power protection. Whether it be countering fluctuating voltage or proving uninterrupted power supply, these devices are an epitome protecting machines and other electrical equipments. These range from the average machines like a personal computer to the more sophisticated ones which include the digital X-ray machines, etc.

The Concern

Now, the biggest concern is the amount of damage that is caused to the electronic equipments due to sudden power failures. The power protection systems, therefore provide the base of "protecting" these equipments from being damaged and thereby saving high costs of maintenance. It works on the basis of providing backup power to a mahcine in the scene of a power failure. This is done with the help of a battery which stores power when there is regular supply. Another major concern is the regulation of normal voltage. This too can be handled by the power protection systems through a device known as the AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator).

Reliability

Power protection systems are the most reliable source of generating backup power and protecting power systems. These systems, can provide backup starting from 15 minutes and running all the way upto 30 minutes. Other than the backup time, an important factor which determines the reliability is the Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF). MTBF is the average time that the power protection systems take to deliever the backup when a power failure occurs. Next in line is the "failure" rate of these systems. The lesser the the failure rate, the more reliable the system.

Selecting the Best

When it comes to protecting systems, a "compromise" will not do. Power protection systems need to be selected by keeping in mind certain guidlines. Firstly, its not just important to provide backup but, its equally important for a machine to deliver optimum performance when its on backup. So, power protection systems should be selected accordingly. Secondly, the amount of backup time provided should also be an issue while making a selection. Lastly, these systems should be long lasting and efficient. In short, a system which requires an early replacement is not an option.
