PowerBlock Adjustable Dumbbells Vs. BowFlex SelecTech Dumbbells
When it comes to adjustable dumbbell sets, there are a couple that have risen to the top in terms of popularity. PowerBlock adjustable dumbbells, and BowFlex SelecTech dumbbells.
To help you determine which set may be the best fit for you, below is a comparison of the two dumbbell sets based on a couple criteria.
How they work
When it comes to buying a set of adjustable dumbbells, obviously one of the first things to think about is how exactly they function.
The first big difference in the two sets is that the PowerBlock dumbbells use a "pin" system that allows you to change the amount of weight you'd like to use. This makes it pretty simple to quickly change the amount of weight you'd like to you use during your workouts. It's simply a matter of sitting down the dumbbell, pulling out the pin, then, sliding it back into the desired weight.
BowFlex SelecTech adjustable dumbbells utilize a "dial" system to change the amount of weight you'd like to use for a chosen exercise. Each BowFlex dumbbell comes with a base that the dumbbell must be sitting in, in order to adjust the weight. With each dumbbell having two dials, (one on each end) you need to turn four dials to get the dumbbells adjusted to the proper weight for a given exercise.
Speed of weight change
The frequency and speed at which you need to change the weight settings of your adjustable dumbbells mostly depends upon your fitness goals. If you're doing more fat loss style workouts, incorporating supersets, and full body workouts, the speed of weight change may be important to you.
PowerBlock dumbbells which utilize a pin as touched on above which make it very easy and fast to change the weight setting. If you're doing a set of lunges for your legs, then go to a set of tricep extensions for your arms, it's simply a matter of sitting them on the ground, pulling out the pin, picking the desired weight, then sliding the pin back in. This makes PowerBlocks very flexible in that they work well with a variety of high intensity workout programs.
BowFlex SelecTech dumbbells operate essentially the same way with a couple slight differences. First, as mentioned above, you have to adjust the dials on each side of the dumbbell to change weight. Four dials in all, two on each dumbbell. The other difference is that you have to place the dumbbell into the base in order to change the weight. Overall, depending on the structure of your workout, and what exercises you're doing, this shouldn't be too big of deal.
Overall the brand you choose will depend on your fitness goals and your budget. Check out my site below for more detailed information.
